I am sure you have heard the saying, “Smile, it makes people wonder what you are up to.” But really, how many smiles do you need to notice on a person before you begin to wonder, “What makes that person happy?” Why are some people naturally happier than others? What is in Happiness?

I recently watch a presentation of Dan Gilbert in a presentation “Why are we happy? Why aren’t we happy?” that he did at the TED Conference in 2004. It is about a 20 minute video and he concludes saying,

“Some things are better than others. We should have preferences that lead us into one future over another. But when those preferences drive us too hard and too fast because we have over rated the difference between these futures we are at risk. When our ambition is bounded it leads us to work joyfully. When our ambition is unbounded it leads us to lie, to cheat, to steal, to hurt others, to sacrifice things of real value. When our fears are bounded we’re prudent, we’re cautious, we’re thoughtful. When our fears are unbounded and overblown we’re reckless and we are cowardly. Our longings and our worries are both to some degree overblown because we have within us the capacity to manufacture the very commodity we are constantly chasing when we choose experience.”

That idea fascinates me! Why? Simply because it states what I teach with COnCEPT Q. WE HAVE THE CAPACITY TO BE HAPPY! But people miss true happiness as they chase experiences seeking happiness.

I asked Sonja, a co-worker of mine, to write a brief description of what she thought of me and whether or not I am a happy person. I was impressed with what she wrote. Many times it is best said through the eyes of someone who observe you all the time. She says,

“Don is a real happy person. I have worked with him for 4 years, and I haven´t ever seen him to get upset more than 5 minutes. He is a kind of person who knows how to transfer desperate emotion to positive strength and become happy. This is why sometimes I wonder what he is made of. The more you get to know him, happier you will be.”

For that reason, I have created a program called the 4 Quarters of Happiness to let you see inside my mind and how I transfer emotions to positive energy and remain happy. The course starts on October 7th and goes for 4 weeks. I think I can teach you to be Happy. As long as you are willing to learn.
